Jack Davis - Interim Chief Executive Officer
Jack Davis was appointed as Chairman of Asterand in May 2008 and Interim Chief Executive Officer in July 2011. He was previously on the Board of Asterand Inc. prior to its merger with Pharmagene plc. He also serves on the Boards of Claros, Inc., Collages.net, Inc., Laboratory Partners, Inc., RedPath Integrated Pathology, Inc. and HistoRx, Inc. Mr. Davis co-founded Dianon Systems, a company that specializes in providing pathology services, holding the position of CEO, Chairman and Director. He has also served as CEO and Director of Calpyte Biomedical Corporation, Genica Pharmaceuticals and Infant Advantage, Inc. For over 15 years, Mr. Davis served in various executive positions with Abbott Laboratories, the last being Vice President and General Manager of Worldwide Diagnostic Products.
Alan Fishman, CPA - Chief Financial Officer
Alan Fishman was appointed Interim Chief Financial Officer in August 2011. Mr. Fishman has more than 30 years experience in providing financial leadership to technology focused companies. Prior to joining Asterand, Mr. Fishman was a partner at the executive services consulting firm, Tatum, LLC. During his tenure at Tatum he served as Chief Financial Officer of four firms with revenue from $5 million to $200 million. In the last several years he has closed corporate financing transactions for senior debt, mezzanine debt, equity, acquisitions, and the sale of business units. Mr. Fishman is an active Certified Public Accountant with a degree in Finance and Accounting from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Master's of Business Administration from the Indiana University Kelley School of Management.
Dalia Cohen, Ph.D. - Chief Scientific Officer
Dalia Cohen joined Asterand as its Chief Scientific Officer in 2010. Before this appointment, Dr. Cohen served as the Chief Scientific Officer of Rosetta Genomics, a microRNA-based diagnostic company. During her four years at Rosetta Genomics, she led the company?s development and launch of three cancer diagnostic tests. Prior to joining Rosetta Genomics, Dr. Cohen worked for 15 years at Novartis and held several executive positions. She served as Vice President & Global Head for Strategic & Enabling Technologies & Molecular Medicine and Vice President & Global Head of the Functional Genomics Department; in this role she led multi-disciplinary teams in Switzerland and the United States. At Sandoz Pharmaceutical she was a Research Fellow in the Oncology department. Dr. Cohen is an Adjunct Professor at the UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. She holds a Ph.D. in Cell Biology from the Faculty of Medicine at Technion, Israel Institute of Technology and was a postdoctoral fellow at Albert Einstein college of Medicine. Dr. Cohen has published over 70 scientific papers.
Tom Mander, DPhil. - Vice President of Sales & Marketing
Tom Mander joined Asterand in November 2007 and was promoted to Vice President of Sales & Marketing in January 2011. Dr. Mander has over 20 years of experience in the areas of research, business development and marketing in the life science industry. His commercial experience includes sales and marketing in Europe and North America, with a track record of proven success of bringing drug discovery services to the market and delivering revenue growth. Prior to joining Asterand, Dr. Mander held business development and marketing management positions with Tripos Discovery Research and Evotec AG. He also held drug discovery and development research positions at Evotec, Glaxo Wellcome (now GlaxoSmithKline), Xenova and Amersham International (now GE Healthcare). Dr. Mander holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Medical Biochemistry from the University of Surrey (UK), a Masters of Business Administration from Open University (UK) and a D.Phil in Human Anatomy from the University of Oxford (UK). Dr. Mander has authored numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and holds patents in the areas of detection of signal transduction and inhibition.
Ellen Berg, Ph.D. - General Manager - BioSeek Inc.
Ellen Berg was a cofounder of BioSeek, Inc. and served as its Chief Scientific Officer. She was appointed as General Manager, Bio Seek LLC after the merger of BioSeek and Asterand in 2010. Dr. Berg has more than 20 years of research experience in pathophysiologic mechanisms of inflammation and immunity. Her expertise in complex cell-based biological assays led to the development of the company's proprietary BioMAP® technology for target validation and drug characterization using primary human cell systems. Prior to founding BioSeek, Inc., Dr. Berg was at Protein Design Labs, Inc. where she was involved in the discovery and development of therapeutic antibodies for treatment of inflammatory diseases. Dr. Berg holds a Ph.D. from Northwestern University and was a postdoctoral fellow at Stanford University where she was supported by fellowships from the American Cancer Society, the Stanford Cancer Biology Program, and the Leukemia Society of America. Dr. Berg holds a number of patents in the fields of inflammation biology and cell adhesion, and has over 60 publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Tony Brown, Ph.D. - General Manager - US Operations
Tony Brown joined the company in 1998 as Pharmagene's Head of Pharmacology. He was appointed to General Manager, Asterand UK Ltd in 2006 and is currently serving as the General Manager for the US Operations. His responsibilities include daily operations for Asterand's US facility in Detroit. Prior to joining the company, Dr. Brown worked for SmithKline Beecham for 10 years, where he led the Receptor Pharmacology Group within Neurosciences Research in the UK. In this role his responsibilities included biochemical and pharmacological drug screening and applied genomic approaches to identify novel drug targets. Dr. Brown also lectured in Physiology and Pharmacology at the University of Nottingham Medical School. Dr. Brown holds a first degree in Engineering from the University of Cambridge, a M.S. in Bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania and a PhD in Physiology from the University of Cambridge. Dr. Brown is widely published in the areas of ion and neurotransmitter transport and receptor pharmacology and biochemistry.
Amanda J Woodrooffe, Ph.D. - General Manager - UK Operations
Amanda Woodrooffe joined Asterand (formerly Pharmagene) in 2001 and has recently been appointed as General Manager UK Operations. Her responsibilities include daily operations for Asterand's UK facility in Royston and the scientific leadership of Asterand's Drug Discovery Services division. Prior to her current role, Dr. Woodrooffe supported Asterand's corporate development activities, which included identifying opportunities for M&A. During this time she initiated discussions and led scientific diligence that resulted in the acquisition of BioSeek LLC. Prior to this, Dr. Woodrooffe was Head of Pharmagene's Biochemical Pharmacology Department and responsible for the DMPK function supporting internal drug discovery programs, for which she now continues to lead all out-licensing activities. Prior to joining Pharmagene, Dr. Woodrooffe worked for 7 years at various Glaxo companies, where her research focused on the use of human in vitro approaches. Amanda holds a Ph.D. in in vitro drug-interactions from the University of Cambridge.
Victoria Blanc, Ph.D. - Vice President, Strategic Planning and Government Affairs
Victoria Blanc joined Asterand in 2002 and was appointed to Vice President, Strategic Planning and Government Affairs in 2010. Prior to her appointment to this role, Dr. Blanc held positions of increasing responsibility within the company. Her previous responsibilities include: General Manager, US Operations, Director of Product Development, Director of Research Services, Business Development Representative and Applications Specialist. Prior to joining Asterand, she worked for Genomic Solutions, based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Through her work there, she gained experience in the applications, sales and marketing of high technology genomics and proteomics instrumentation. Dr. Blanc holds a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
Ivan Plavec, Ph.D. - Vice President Business Development - BioSeek Inc.
Ivan Plavec joined BioSeek in 2000 and was one of the key inventors of the BioMAP technology platform. After the merger of BioSeek and Asterand in February 2010, he was appointed Vice President, Business Development with a focus on developing long term collaborative partnerships with pharmaceutical companies for the BioMAP® platform. Dr. Plavec has more than twenty years of experience in research, business development and licensing. Prior to joining BioSeek, Dr. Plavec served as Director of Research at both Systemix and Novartis. During his tenure at Novartis, he also served as member of its competitive assessment and strategic planning team. Dr. Plavec holds a Ph.D. from the University of Zurich, Switzerland and was a postdoctoral fellow at the European Laboratory for Biotechnology in Paris, France, and at the Sandoz Research Institute in Vienna, Austria. Dr. Plavec has authored numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and holds patents in the areas of monoclonal antibody development, gene therapy, pathway mapping and drug discovery. |
