The potential for adverse pharmacological effects of a compound on key organ systems, including cardiovascular, CNS and respiratory, should be assessed before a compound is first administered to man1. Typically, such studies are performed using a combination of in vivo and in vitro animal models. However, Asterand can provide preclinical testing in human tissues in vitro, thus providing a biologically relevant approach for identifying potential adverse effects of drug candidates destined for human use. Asterand has over 10 years experience in the design and execution of human tissue pharmacology studies. In addition to investigating the desired effect of test compounds in fresh human tissues, Asterand offers services to assess side effect liability at human native targets, thus providing powerful support for the safety of compounds in man. Asterand has unrivaled access to fresh human cardiovascular and lung tissues and generates compound safety data in the following human systems:
Such data can support pre-clinical development and build confidence in the selection of compounds that have the desired effects together with minimal risk of adverse effects.
