Biomarker validation services To complement our world-leading human tissue procurement network, Asterand offers biomarker validation services under its PhaseZERO® Drug Discovery Services platform. We offer two quantitative gene expression profiling (qRT-PCR) services: XpressWayTM Profiles, which are whole body expression maps that may be used to identify which non-diseased human tissues express a potential biomarker. The profiles are extracted from Asterand's TargetEvaluatorTM database, which contains the profiles of over 2,300 human genes. XpressWayTM Profile for GPR22 showing expression of the gene in 72 different human tissues that represent the major organ systems of the body. Each tissue type is obtained from 3 different donors and the data points on the spokes of the wheel are the mean transcript copy numbers of the gene determined for each tissue. CustomMappingTM offers clients the option to request preparation of bespoke gene expression profiling plates to generate expression data in human tissues not offered as standard by Asterand. CustomMappingTM is used to confirm differential expression of biomarkers in diseased and non-diseased tissues. Expression of Target X in ventricular samples from non-diseased (control donors and from donors with idiopathic cardiomyopathy (IDC) and ischemic cardiomyopathy (ICM). In addition to its gene expression capabilities, Asterand offers in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry services to aid validation of biomarkers at the cellular level. High quality frozen or FFPE sections of human diseased and non-diseased tissues are used. Asterand also has expertise in the preparation of frozen and FFPE human tissue microarrays to aid studies that require higher throughput than can be achieved with single tissue sections. A new offering from Asterand is XpressArrayTM, an FFPE based, human non-diseased tissue microarray used for immunohistochemistry that is designed to complement XpressWayTM Profiles. XpressArrayTM offers biomarker validation at the cellular level using immunohistochemistry and is a convenient follow on service to the tissue level XpressWayTM Profiles
